Restoration of the mausoleum of Porto Mahon

In July 2021, Mario Cappa requested our help to carry out a recovery and cleaning operation of the Mausoleum of the fallen of Rome in the cemetery of Porto Mahon. Work of the Italian sculptor Armando D'Abrusco, the Mausoleum was erected in 1952 by the Italian Navy in the same place where they were initially26 sailors who died on Isla del Rey are buried as a result of injuries and burns.
The Mausoleum was then completely washed with katcher and given the protective varnish after re-gluing the detached letters.
The intervention was completely financed by the generous donations of some participants in the Facebook Group Associazione Regia Nave Roma and of which we publishthe list.
Last10 July Vespucci shiparrived in Mahon as part of the cruise of the Livorno cadets. The crew wanted to pay homage to the fallen of Roma by depositing a laurel wreath at the mausoleum we have just restored.
